Merge 5 PDF files into one

Combining 5 documents is the same operation whether it is two or twenty: pages are copied into a new container in order, without re-encoding. That means no quality loss and no change to page size or rotation.

How to merge 5 PDFs in order

Drop all the files at once, then use the arrows to arrange them. The list order becomes the page order in the output — nothing is sorted alphabetically behind your back, which matters when you are assembling an invoice run or a signed contract plus its annexes.

When the order is right, one click produces a single PDF. Each page keeps its original dimensions, so an A4 report followed by a Letter-size scan stays exactly that: both formats, side by side, in one file.

What merging does not do

Merging copies pages; it does not flatten, re-render or compress them. Images are not re-encoded, so quality is bit-for-bit identical to the sources. The price is that the output file is roughly the sum of the inputs — merge is not a size optimisation.

It also does not create bookmarks or a table of contents. If you need navigation in a long combined document, add bookmarks in a full PDF editor afterwards; faking them with a cover page usually reads worse.

Common reasons to combine documents

Contracts with annexes, monthly invoice runs for an accountant, scanned receipts for an expense claim, or a portfolio assembled from separate exports. In each case the recipient expects one file, and emailing a dozen attachments is a good way to lose one of them.

Everything runs locally, so confidential merges — payslips, medical records, ID copies — never touch a server.

Questions

Is there a limit on merging 5 files?

The free plan allows up to 3 files per job; Pro has no file or page limit, bounded only by your device's memory. For 5 files, Pro is the practical route — or merge in batches and merge the results.

Does merging reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied without re-encoding. Text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not directly — the password must be removed first, because the encrypted pages cannot be read without it. Everything else merges normally.
